City Sewer Maintenance

Riverside has a sewer collection system consisting of over 800 miles of sewer lines, 16,000 manholes, and several pumping stations. Collections Division staff perform a variety of maintenance operations to ensure the proper function of the entire system.

In 2009, The City of Riverside implemented a Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP) which outlines how the City ensures the proper function of the sewer system. As a result of its implementation, Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs) have declined in the period since that time.

The City’s Sewer Collection Division maintains a comprehensive maintenance program consisting of Hydro-jetting sewer lines, removing roots, performing video inspections, and other preventative maintenance. In 2012, the Collections Division cleaned 553 miles of sewer lines, performed video inspections of 46 miles and completed 695 service orders.
