Permit Records Search

Completed building permits issued for properties within the City of Riverside are retained on file for the life of the structure. Permits and all other related documents are available through Permits Online.

Request for Duplication of Plans

Requests for the duplication of building plans retained by the Building & Safety Division are processed in accordance with California Health & Safety Code Section 19851. There are very specific requirements per state law to obtain all necessary approvals and a release for the duplication of building plans.

Per state law, any building department of a city or county, which is requested to duplicate the official copy of the plans maintained by the building department, shall request written permission to do so from the certified, licensed, or registered professional, or his or her successor, if any, who signed the original documents and from (1) the original or current owner of the building or (2), if the building is part of a common interest development, from the board of directors or other governing body of the association established to manage the common interest development.

Due to various copyright laws and provisions, requests must be received in writing and may take 30 to 60 days to process for approval. As noted, there are various written releases required prior to the approval and release of building plans for duplication.
