Riverside Public Safety Agencies to Conduct Active Shooter Drill Nov. 14

Public should not be alarmed by large police, fire presence at Bourns Inc., in Hunter Park area

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Riverside Police and Fire departments will conduct a major active shooter drill on the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 14 in the Hunter Park neighborhood of northeast Riverside. The drill will simulate a mass casualty event and will be designed to appear as realistic as possible in order to test the abilities of first responders.

Members of the public are asked to keep in mind that a drill is taking place that day and not become alarmed if you see a large number of police and fire vehicles, as well as ambulances and other emergency response vehicles, grouped together in larger numbers that morning. The same is true if you see emergency vehicles traveling on city streets to area hospitals, which is part of the drill.

The drill is being conducted at Bourns Inc., 1200 Columbia Avenue. It is not open to the public.

Members of the media who wish to cover the event should be prepared to show credentials.

An estimated 150 people will participate in the drill. Some will be portraying victims who are injured, deceased or fleeing the building. Make-up will be utilized to make their injuries appear real, in order to make the drill as effective as possible. Again, if you are traveling in the vicinity of Bourns Inc. on Wednesday morning, please keep in mind that this drill is occurring. Signs will be posted at and near the site to remind motorists that what they are seeing is only a drill.

Specific questions about the drill should be directed to:

Brian Guzzetta, Training Captain, City of Riverside Fire Department -- 951-320-8190 or [email protected]

Officer Ryan J. Railsback, Community Services Bureau, Riverside Police Department -- (951) 826-5959 or [email protected]
