First Sundays OCTOBER 2019 - MAY 2020

First Sundays is a seasonal series of free family programs featuring different activities for children and teens at seven different location in downtown: Museum of Riverside, Mission Inn Museum, Riverside Art Museum, Riverside Public Library, UCR ArtsBlock, Riverside Fox Theater Foundation, and now the new Center for Social Justice and Civil Liberties! All locations are open free and all activities are free and open to the public. The program is made possible through the collaborative efforts of all locations involved as well as the sponsorship of the Riverside Arts Council.

Join us and 6 other locations on the first Sunday of every month from October – May |  1 – 4 pm | Free and Open to the Public!
 

First Sundays - California Pinecones
Sunday, December 1, 2019 | 1 – 4 pm | Free | Museum Front Steps
Come and discover the amazing variety of  pinecones you can find in California. From the Giant Sequoia to the Coulter Pine, we’ll explore the special adaptations of these amazing natural resources!

First Sundays - National Houseplant Day!
January 5, 2020 | 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. | Museum of Riverside | Free

Mom won’t let you have a pet? In honor of national houseplant day in January, pick a plant and find out how to care for it. Learn about all the benefits of keeping these green friends in your home.

 

First Sundays - Animals Underground (Groundhog Day)
February 2, 2020 | 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. | Museum of Riverside | Free

Who’s lurking under the surface? We’ll explore some local animals that use tunnels and dens as their homes. From insects to that famous groundhog, why do animals choose to live in the underground?

First Sundays - Pinkies Up!

March 1, 2020 | 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. | Museum of Riverside | Free
Learn the intricacies of tea etiquette both in America and abroad. We’ll have tea tastings, plus a place setting game to test your skills at laying a proper tea table.

First Sundays - Reptile Round-Up!

April 5, 2020 | 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. | Museum of Riverside | Free

From snakes to lizards, geckos to tortoises, join us as we explore scaly creatures! Meet live reptiles and explore how these animals have adapted to survive in extreme habitats. Do you know which reptiles call Riverside home?

 

First Sundays - Captain Carl
May 3, 2020 | 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. | Museum of Riverside | Free

Join Captain Carl and his live sea animals to discuss how climate change is affecting our fragile local oceans.  Kids (and adults!) will have the opportunity to hold a starfish, squeeze a sea squirt, and touch an urchin.
