    Current Situation

(Recent updates are posted at the top of the Current Situation)

On February 19, 2019, at 2:24 a.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire with reports of a vehicle into the house with RPD on scene.  Downtown Station 1 units arrived on scene to find a two-story residential structure with one passenger vehicle into the side of the house with the engine compartment area on fire.  RPD Officers were in the process of removing the driver from the vehicle to a patrol vehicle.  Firefighters extinguished the fire and performed a search of the structure with no occupants found.  The lone occupant of the residential structure had escaped the structure prior to arrival.  The exterior wall is compromised, and the vehicle was left in place pending RPD investigation.

SOCAL Gas responded to the incident and confirmed there was an underground gas leak around the meter.  The vehicle may have hit the gas meter.  RPU was also called to the scene to secure utilities.  A request was placed for a city Building and Safety Official to respond to the incident to check for the integrity of the structure before removing the vehicle.  A request was also made for Code Enforcement to coordinate with Building and Safety if the house is to be red tagged.

The driver of the vehicle was assessed on scene by AMR paramedic and was released to RPD.

The occupant of the house was not injured, there were no firefighter injuries.  The estimated loss of the house is $200,00 with a save of $450,000.

The incident scene was transferred to RPD for mitigation.
