On November 8, 2012, the City of Riverside was honored for their forward-looking economic development practices at the CoreNet Global Southern California REMMYS.
The premier annual event recognizes leadership excellence and best practices in corporate real estate throughout Southern California. Along with the awards ceremony, the evening gala included a high profile silent auction and business networking dinner with proceeds benefitting Junior Achievement of Southern California.
The Leadership in Economic Development award was judged based on criteria that demonstrated creativity and the successful implementation of major win-win projects in a community and/or region in Southern California, emphasizing innovation. The City of Riverside earned the recognition for its Completion Counts learning partnership program. The business-education-government partnership is working aggressively to increase the college-going rate in the community in an effort to build its knowledge-based workforce and future talent capital in the region.
“Riverside has made a commitment to doing whatever it can to help our businesses create jobs for the community and region;” explained Riverside Mayor Ronald O. Loveridge, “the best resource we can provide businesses is an educated and trained workforce. Completion Counts is a program that gives our residents a path towards graduation and, in doing so, provides current and future businesses with a well-equipped workforce.”
The other two award winners for the evening included Wells Fargo (Industry Excellence – Wells/Wachovia merger and integration) and HKS (Innovative Workplace – Salt River Fields). Other nominees in the Leadership in Economic Development category included The City of Ontario for the Set Ontario Free Campaign; The County of San Bernardino for both their web-based building permit process and the attraction of United Furniture Industries; and the Town of Apple Valley for its Watson Logistics Center.
