This public benefit program offers rebates to residential electric customers when they purchase and install new high energy-efficient air conditioning systems or heat pumps in their homes.
There are two types of air conditioners – split systems and packaged units. For split systems, both the condenser and the evaporative coil must be “new” and replaced at the time of installation. The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) must meet the specifications for the appropriate types of systems as stated below. Both the condensing unit and the evaporative coil model numbers must be listed in combination on the AHRI Directory and meet the efficiency requirements as a combination in order to qualify.
What are the rebate amounts?
Current rebates are $150 per ton for an AC unit with a SEER
rating of 15 - 15.9 and $250 per ton for an AC unit with a SEER of 16 or
greater. This rebate program also provides $25.00 for HVAC tune-up
(must include refrigerant level check).

Using your pool pump when energy demand is low can help keep electric rates down and reduce your impact on Riverside’s electrical grid. This is especially true during the warm summer months when electricity use is high. In our effort to support energy conservation, Riverside Public Utilities is giving our residential electricity customers a $5 credit toward their monthly electricity bill for every month they use their pool pumps during off-peak hours.
To qualify for this credit, customers must have a permanent in-ground swimming pool with appropriate pump, motor, filter and timer equipment. Above-ground pools, empty pools, and stand-alone spas are not eligible to receive this billing credit. Also, commercial and public swimming pools, which are required to run pump motors when pools are in use, are not eligible for this credit. Other programs that reduce electricity costs for commercial pool owners may be discussed with RPU staff.
How do I participate in the Pool Pump Billing Credit Program?
First, set your pool pump’s cleaning cycle to run between 10:01 p.m. and 11:59 a.m weekdays (Monday - Friday). You should only operate your pool pump for as long as is required by your pool pump manufacturer to keep your pool clean during these specified off-peak hours.
Next, complete and sign the Pool Pump – Billing Credit Program Application Form and submit it following instructions at the bottom of this page.

Refrigerator Recycling is a free public benefit service that offers residential electric customers the opportunity to recycle older, operating inefficient refrigerators and standalone freezers. These units are transported to a recycling facility for dismantling and processing, making the program easy and convenient for our customers.
It is important to know that California law prohibits dumping your refrigerator
or freezer in landfills and that many disposal companies charge a fee to pick up refrigerators or freezers for recycling.
What are the benefits of recycling my older units?
By recycling your old, inefficient refrigerator or freezer, you can save on future electric costs. In fact, inefficient refrigerators and freezers can cost $200 or more per year to use than those that are energy-efficient. Add a second refrigerator in the garage and you could be looking at an additional $100 or more in yearly electric costs. This is why we now offer customers $50 when they recycle their old, working refrigerators or freezers without buying a new one. See below for details.
What Do I Need to Do?
If you’re replacing your old refrigerator with a new Energy Star appliance, use the Energy Star Rebate Program
.
If you’re simply getting rid of your old, inefficient refrigerator or freezer, use the
Residential Refrigerator Recycling Rebate Application.

Tree Program
The Tree Power Shade Tree Rebate Program is a year-round program where Riverside Public Utilities’ (RPU) electric customers can purchase up to 5 shade trees per calendar year from a participating Riverside nursery and receive a rebate of $35 per tree. Sales tax, delivery or installation fees, and other associated costs are not considered part of the total purchase price. Rebates are credited to the customer’s utility bill. (some restrictions apply).
While most trees are eligible for the program, due to the vulnerability of the City’s citrus stock to Asian Citrus Psyllid and Huanglongbing (HLB), an agreement was made by RPU and the participating nurseries to remove any citrus trees from program participation.
What do I need to do?
Go to a participating nursery and purchase up to five (5) qualifying trees. Plant the trees on your property only, then complete the Tree Power Rebate Program application. Mail the application and all applicable tree receipts to address located at the bottom of this page.

The Coupon for a free shade tree is redeemable at a participating retailer (listed below) and is good for one (1) free shade tree up to $35 in value (the back of your March RPU utility bill is “the coupon”).
