Steps to Becoming an Officer

1. Submit an online application at online or contact Human Resources at the (951) 826-5808 for proper instructions.

2. Human Resources will contact qualified applicants with an invitation to the written exam by letter and email. The written exam may be waived if you have passed the POST Entry-level Law Enforcement Battery Test with a T-score of 62 or higher within the last year. A practice exam can be located online(Waived for Lateral Applicants).

3. Human Resources will contact qualified applicants that have passed the written exam with an invitation by letter and e-mail to take the Physical Agility Test. Applicants must bring a completed Personal History Statement (PHS) to the Physical Agility Test. The PHS can be located at http://lib.post.ca.gov/Publications/2-251.pdf.

4. Human Resources will contact qualified applicants that have passed the Physical Agility Test with an invitation by letter and e-mail to the Oral Interview.

5. Qualified Applicants will be contacted by the Background Investigator who will be conducting a background on the applicant.

6.Qualified Applicants that have successfully passed a background investigation will be given a Conditional Job Offer (CJO) by Human Resources.

7.Applicants will be contacted by a police polygraph examiner. The applicant must successfully pass a Polygraph Examination.

8.Human Resources will contact qualified applicants that have passed the Polygraph Exam and a Medical Exam will be scheduled.

9.The police department will contact qualified applicants that have passed the Medical Exam and a Psychological Exam will be scheduled.

10.The police department will contact qualified applicants that have passed the Psychological Exam for a Command Oral Interview.
