Bicycle Program

Bike lanes are present on most major streets, and several bicycle paths serve the community.

Bike lanes are swept twice a month by the Public Works Department. High volume bike paths, like Victoria Avenue, are swept every Friday to prepare for increased use on weekends. Bike path maintenance is completed by the Public Works Department on an as needed basis.

Regardless of whether or not a bikeway stripe, stencil, or sign is present on a given street, bicycles are permitted on all roads in the state of California (with the exception of access controlled freeways). As such, Riverside's entire street network is effectively the City's bicycle network.

The designation of certain roads as Class II or III are not intended to imply that these are the only roadways intended for bicycle use, or that bicyclists should not be riding on other streets. Rather, the designation of a network of Class II and Class III on street bikeways recognizes that certain roadways are optimal bicycle routes, for reasons such as directness or access to significant destinations.
