Federal, State and local laws, require that a hazardous materials Business Emergency Plan (BEP) must be submitted by any business that use, store and handle a hazardous material or a mixture containing a hazardous material in quantities equal to, or greater than, 500 pounds or 55 gallons; 200 cubic feet for compressed gases; or 10 pounds or more of organic peroxides, carcinogens, radioactive or highly toxic materials, or class 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3 explosives.

In the City of Riverside, the Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for administrating the BEP program. Beginning January 1, 2010, the City of Riverside will be requiring all businesses to submit a new or update an existing annual Business Emergency Plan electronically. This will be pursuant to the upcoming State mandate that will require all businesses to submit their BEPâ€™s electronically. In order to submit online you must request a username and password by submitting the completed login request form by clicking on the Business Emergency Plans Electronic Filing icon below. Within a few days you will receive an email with your username and password. Each facility is also required to pay an annual BEP fee. The yearly permit will be mailed when an approved plan or update has been submitted and the fee paid.
