Current Situation
The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a report of a dog trapped in a drainpipe in the 4400 Block of Miramonte Place. Because of the potential for the incident to become an animal rescue, The City of Riverside Fire Departments Technical Rescue Team, which specializes in all types of rescues, including animal rescue, was dispatched to the scene. Riverside Firefighters found a storm drain that was approximately 14 inches in diameter that ran above and below ground for approximately 300 feet. The dog’s owner stated that the dog, a Jack Russell Terrier named Jack, had been down in the pipe for more than 3 hours, and she was worried the dog was becoming exhausted and could not get out. Based on the occasional barking from Jack, Firefighters from the Technical Rescue team were able to determine approximately where the dog was in the pipe. The team disassembled the pipe in 2 separate sections until they were able to locate the dog, who willingly came out of the drainpipe. The tired but otherwise uninjured dog was reunited with his owner.
