    Current Situation

    On Saturday July 11, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm vegetation fire assignment to the 2400 Block of Madison.   The first unit on scene reported approximately 3 acres burning with fire spotting near the Old Casa Blanca Rock Quarry.  There were down energized powerlines along Madison,  Riverside Public Utilities deenergized the power lines in the area. 

    An immediate exposure threat was identified for one house, a livery stable, vehicles, and an avocado grove.  Two residents on the property were assisted to a safe refuge area while firefighters protected the exposures and extinguished the fire.  The fire was upgrade to three alarms and was contained at approximately three acres. 

    The fire started in a small grove of palm trees and spread across Madison to the adjacent property.  The cause of the fire was undetermined after an investigation.  The fire caused damage to three vehicles including a motor home and approximately 60 avocado trees.  Property damage is estimated at $400,000.   Two firefighters were injured as a result of the fire.  There were not any civilian injuries.
