    Current Situation

(Recent updates are posted at the top of the Current Situation)

The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a report of a patient who had been electrocuted and had fallen onto a fence, possibly impaling the subject.  Upon arrival, the first due Captain reported an adult male with significant burns to his body, impaled on a rod iron fence.  The man was conscious and breathing.  Due to the complexity of removing the man from the fence, the Riverside City Fire Technical Rescue Team, and one additional engine, were requested to the scene.  Witnesses stated the man had been working on the roof of a business when he physically came in contact with energized power lines.  The man was knocked from the roof area and fell approximately 20' before landing on the fence.  He sustained severe burns, as well as traumatic injuries from the impalement.  The Tech Rescue Team worked carefully but efficiently to extricate the man from the fence.  RPD officers were on scene and assisted with managing the incident.  The patient was extricated and moved to AMR's ambulance.  He was transported to a local Trauma center in critical condition.  There was one minor firefighter injury reported as a result of the rescue.
