    Current Situation

(Recent updates are posted at the top of the Current Situation)

The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to 2995 Iowa Ave to the construction site located in the front of Stater Bros grocery store.  A 4” natural gas line was accidentally ruptured by construction crews.  Stater Bros and surrounding businesses were evacuated as a precaution due to the gas leak. Southern California Gas Company responded to the incident and mitigated the leak.  The Riverside Police Department responded to the incident to assist with evacuations and the closure of local streets surrounding the construction site.

Riverside County Environmental Health was requested to respond to the scene to assist Stater Bros with mitigating any spoiled food from the gas line being shut down during the incident.

A total of three chief officers, three engine companies, one truck, three overhead personnel and our Haz-Mat team responded to the incident.  There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.  Once the gas leak was mitigated, local streets were re-opened along with the businesses that were evacuated.
