    Ward 1 Edwards / 4445 Magnolia Ave / Riverside Community Hospital / Structure Fire / RIV Incident #20-027790

    On September 24, 2020 at 10:34 a.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm structure fire assignment to Riverside Community Hospital for smoke in the basement of the Old Tower.   Firefighters arrived to find the structure being evacuated.  Firefighters then discovered an overheated commercial vacuum in the basement attached to the wall that had overheated and burning oil residue.  There was no active fire.  Firefighters checked the floors above the basement to ensure patient safety with no smoke found on the floors.  The Incident Commander has had the Haz-Mat team respond to the incident to perform air monitoring sampling to ensure the atmosphere is safe for staff.  The patients are not affected by the incident.

    A total of six engine companies, one truck company, one squad, one chief officer and the Haz-Mat team responded to the incident.  There are no civilian, patients or firefighters injuries.  The incident is still on-going and will be updated as the Incident Commander provides any significant updates.  A total of 27 firefighters and one chief officer responded to the incident.
