The proliferation and increasing prominence of misinformation, pseudoscience, and conspiracy theories in our daily lives and in political discourse represent one of the biggest threats to humanity in the 21st century. Individuals, groups, and leaders rely on information to make decisions and shape policy, but if it becomes increasingly difficult to discern what information is true—or how we even know it's true—then it hampers every major decision we make. I'll discuss what drives disinformation and conspiracy theories, why they pose such a threat, how we can know what's true, and how to fight disinformation.
