The Resources Division is responsible for procuring, maintaining and managing the Utility’s water, wholesale power, renewable power and real property resources. To manage these responsibilities, the Division is divided between three functional areas: Water Resources, Power Resources and Real Property Resources.

The Water Resources Group is responsible for developing, planning, managing, and safeguarding the quantity and quality of the City’s water resources to provide the City’s customers and future generations with a safe, cost effective and reliable water supply. The City’s water supply sources include groundwater from the local groundwater basins, imported water, and recycled water. Groundwater from local groundwater basins represents the primary source of water supply for the City.

The City also purchases a small amount of imported water to supplement its water supply during periods of high demand or emergencies. A small quantity of recycled water is also currently used for landscape irrigation near Van Buren Blvd. and the Santa Ana River, and will be utilized for the new Riverside Energy Resource Center electric generation facilities.
