Through its past acquisitions related to local water agencies, as well as direct procurement of land rights related to RPU’s actual and anticipated electric and water distribution needs, the Utility holds real property interests in over 100 parcels, worth millions of dollars, located in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. The Utility has leased many of these parcels to entities for various uses, while many parcels remain undeveloped in preparation for future use by the utility.

Future annexations and the expansion of the Utility’s infrastructure due to population growth will require that many of these properties be used to host electric or water facilities. Where the size, location or other characteristics of existing properties are inconsistent with an intended utility use, additional real property will be acquired to accommodate the Utility’s needs. Where a property interest held by the Utility is found by its governing bodies to be excess to the Utility’s needs, the property is made available for disposal at fair market value.

Staff assistance on property transactions is provided by the City’s General Services Department, Property Management Division.
