:: Pool Pump – Billing Credit Program

Keeping electric use down during peak demand hours (especially in the summer months) helps to keep electric rates in line by reducing the need to build new power plants.

In exchange for shifting the energy needs of pool pumps throughout the City to occur during off-peak hours, when overall energy demands are less, Riverside Public Utilities offers residential electric customers with in-ground pools a $5 monthly billing credit.

Who is eligible for the Pool Pump Billing Credit Program?

Any residential electric customer served by Riverside Public Utilities who has a permanent in-ground swimming pool and the appropriate pump, motor, filter and timer equipment is eligible to participate in this billing credit program.

Above ground pools, empty pools, or stand-alone spas are NOT ELIGIBLE to receive a billing credit. Additionally, commercial and public swimming pools are NOT ELIGIBLE, due to health regulations that require them to run pump motors when pools are in use, including on-peak hours. Other programs to help reduce electric costs for commercial pool owners may be discussed with RPU staff.

Rebates are available for installing Energy Efficient Pool and Spa Pumps!

When are Off-Peak hours?

Off-Peak hours are between 10:01 p.m. and 11:59 a.m.

During this time is when you want to set your pool pump’s automatic timer equipment to operate your pool’s cleaning cycle.

How do I participate in the Pool Pump Billing Credit Program?

First, set your pool pump’s cleaning cycle to run between 10:01 p.m. and 11:59 a.m.

Note: Only operate your pool pump for as long as is required by your manufacturer to keep your pool clean. DO NOT run pumps the entire off-peak time.
