Riverside’s power comes from a variety of energy resources including natural gas, coal, nuclear and hydroelectric power plants. Our Electric Utility has a long-standing history of providing service to the City of Riverside and was enacted by City Charter in 1883.

The Electric Utility is responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electric power for sale within the city. We have over 103,000 electric meter connections and sold over 2,413 millions of kilowatt-hours of energy in fiscal year 2004/05.

Riverside Public Utility (RPU) is a recognized leader within the state of California for its commitment to increase the use of renewable resources from wind, water, gas, geothermal and solar sources of energy. We call this program Green Power.

Navigate through the pages in this section to learn more about the positive strides we are making in the use of renewable energy and how this can be of benefit to you.

Help ensure reliable service during the hot summer months! As the temperature rises, so does the use of electricity, which means higher utility bills. We've got energy conservation tips to help you stay cool, save energy and reduce your bill.
RPU fully complies with California's power source disclosure program which assures retail electricity customers get full and accurate information about the electricity products they purchase. For more information about Riverside's sources of power generation, call LeeAnne Uhler at 351-6356.
