RPU Giving Away FREE “Go Green” Reusable Shopping Bags

Green BagRiverside Public Utilities is now giving away FREE “Go Green” reusable shopping bags to customers at the following facilities: Downtown Utilities Plaza, 3460 Orange Street; Casa Blanca Customer Resource Center, 3025 Madison Street; and Utilities Administration Building, 3901 Orange Street.

The one hundred percent polypropylene, reusable shopping bags will be available to RPU customers on a first come, first served basis while supplies last.

The bags are washable, and each reusable bag holds the equivalent of 3-4 plastic bags or 2 paper bags.  Some local stores offer discounts to customers who use reusable bags (check with your local merchants for discounts).

“As a part of being good stewards of the community and promoting Green living, we wanted to offer these bags to our customers as a way for them to save energy, water, and the environment by simply utilizing reusable bags when they shop, instead of plastic or paper bags,” said Riverside Public Utilities General Manager, David H. Wright.

Americans use over 14 billion plastic bags annually, and the petroleum in just 14 plastic bags could drive a car one mile.  Additionally, it takes 70 percent more global warming gasses to make a paper bag than a plastic bag.
