Riverside Public Utilities and the City of Riverside have collaborated to construct a 19 kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) structure on the 7th floor patio of Riverside City Hall. The solar structure replaces a smaller patio structure and covers about two-thirds of the patio area. The new structure will enable the patio to be utilized year-round and also provides extra electricity to off-set peak energy demands at City Hall. Photo by Michael J Elderman
Project Highlights Include:
- 19 kilowatts of clean, photovoltaic (solar) power
- $976,000 provided from Utilities Public Benefits Funds
- Provides Solar Power to offset peak energy demands at City Hall
- Completed, September 2006
This well-designed photovoltaic structure is a great example of how renewable energy projects can be added to existing structures in an artistic and architecturally significant way. The structure is just one project which shows the City of Riverside’s continued commitment to clean, renewable energy resources for current and future generations.
