Starting in November two energy-saving Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs) will be arriving in the mail to 86,600 Riverside Public Utilities' residential electric customers.
The Utility is providing the bulbs as a part of our continuing efforts to meet state-mandated energy efficiency goals set forth in Assembly Bill 2021.
The Energy Star-rated CFLs use about 75% less energy than standard incandescent bulbs and last up to ten-times longer. A 15 watt CFL and 20 watt CFL (which replace a 60 watt and 75 watt standard bulbs respectively) are included in the mailing.
Over their lifetimes (approximately 6.85 years each), the bulbs can save each home about $130.00 in energy costs while offsetting more than 2,000 pounds of greenhouse gasses.
Citywide the savings could top over 86.6 million kWh and 173 million lbs. of emissions!
