About Wastewater

Through the collection and treatment of the community’s sewage, the Riverside Water Quality Control Plant protects our environment and quality of life while creating reusable resources.

The Riverside Water Quality Control Plant is responsible for providing the effective treatment of domestic and industrial wastewater generated within the City of Riverside and in the Rubidoux, Edgemont, and Jurupa Community Services Districts.

Water TreatmentThis entails the continuous efficient operation of the primary, secondary and tertiary treatment plant to produce high quality treated effluent that complies with 100% of all state and Federal requirements. Sewage treatment is carried out at the Riverside Water Quality Control Plant (WQCP), which provides preliminary, primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment for a rated capacity of 40 million gallons per day (MGD).

The RWQCP is comprised of the following sections:

  • Laboratory Services

Riverside Public Works makes sure the city's wastewater is clean and safe. Consistent with the city's green goals is improving water quality which protects the environment, wildlife, and recreational uses of the waters, from the nearby Santa Ana River all the way down to the Pacific Ocean.
