City of Riverside, California
:: Green Projects - Biosolids Disposal

Biosolids DisposalThe Riverside Water Quality Control Plant (RWQCP) generates and requires disposal of 150 Wet Tons Per Day (WTPD) of Class B digester sludge ("biosolids"). Class B biosolids have not been land applied in any Southern California county since January 1, 2003, as counties have passed ordinances banning it, imposed conditions that are uneconomical to meet, or because there are no permitted acres available.

Glossary The EnerTech Project will serve as alternative method of disposing Class B biosolids. This alternative will save the City an estimated $27.4 million during the twenty year life of the contract. In addition to offering economic benefits to the City of Riverside, the Biosolids Project would offer:

  1. A new and sustainable management option that faces no public opposition and is isolated from regulatory changes;
  2. A proven method of biosolids utilization that renders no by-product and therefore no long-term contingent liability for the City of Riverside;
  3. Production of renewable energy; and
  4. Regional solution.

EnerTech will be managing Riverside's Class B biosolids by converting them, through a patented SlurryCarb™ process, to a renewable, green fuel, which can be used as a substitute for lignite coal in a cement kiln.

EnerTech Environmental California LLC, offers the best long-term option for managing Riverside's biosolids.
