Fatal Traffic Collision-Single Vehicle

Riverside, Ca- Today at approximately 1:43 am, a 2006 Dodge Charger was traveling in excess of 100 mph southbound Canyon Crest Dr. approaching Country Club Dr. The driver of the vehicle lost control and hit the West curb of Canyon Crest Dr. The vehicle continued and hit two trees causing the vehicle to split in half.

A witness called 911 and members of the Riverside Fire and Police Departments responded to the scene. The right front passenger, a 23 year-old male of Moreno Valley was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle identified as 22 year-old Jesus Nevarez Jr. of Moreno Valley was transported to Riverside Community Hospital with major injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the driver was under the influence of alcohol. No charges were filed pending results of a blood test.

The Riverside Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) responded to the scene and the collision is under investigation.
