Major Injury Traffic Collision - Vehicle vs Tree

Riverside, Ca- Today at approximately 8:22 pm, a 1992 Dodge Dynasty carrying four males was traveling N/B on Chicago Avenue approaching Spruce Street when the driver, for an unknown reason, locked the brakes and skidded into the intersection, over the northeast curb and into a large palm tree, which caused major front-end damage to the car.

Riverside Fire and Police were called to the scene and all occupants were found to have head and body injuries. The Paramedic and Fire units were able to remove the males from the vehicle and treated them at the scene, then transported all to local hospitals.

The right front passenger, a 21-year-old male, was taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center with severe head trauma injuries. His condition is very critical.

The rear passengers were taken to Riverside Community Hospital with severe head trauma and broken legs. They were both admitted into the ICU ward after Emergency Room staff treated them. Their condition is also very critical.

The driver, a 21-year-old Riverside resident, was taken to Riverside Community Hospital with head trauma injuries and subsequently cleared for release. He was arrested for felony Driving Under the Influence and booked into the Riverside County Jail.

The Riverside Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) responded to the scene and the collision is under investigation.
