RPD history compiled on new website
Riverside, Ca- Riverside Police Department members have created a new historical website, tracing the history and personalities of the department over the past century. It is a work in progress. Public and past employee contributions are being sought to expand and improve the “RPD Remembers” web site.
Find it at www.rpdremembers.org
Primarily the work of Detective Mike Eveland, the privately-maintained site includes formal and informal photographs of hundreds of past police officers and illustrated recollections of dramatic incidents in the department’s history. Names, dates and stories behind some photographs are unknown at this time. Texts of newspaper accounts written at the time of some incidents add flair and context to many entires.
Many of the photographs were located in boxes stored in police facilities while looking for other archival materials, Eveland said. Since creating the website in May 2006, Eveland has received additional materials from RPD retirees and families of former officers who have donated additional photos and helped in identifying others.
“I’d hate to see these resources lost in time,” Eveland said. “Until now, these kinds of photos have never been combined and found together in one place.”
Members of the public who may have materials, stories or missing photo information can contact Eveland through a link on the bottom of the main page.
