Major Injury Traffic Collision – Vehicle vs. Vehicle
Riverside, Ca- On May 11, 2006, at 9:22 pm, 23-year-old Joseph Christopher Landers of Riverside was street racing
with 24-year-old Stephen Anthony Mitchell west on Indiana from Tyler at a high rate of speed. Both were driving Dodge Dakota
pick up trucks. Meanwhile, 38-year-old Marina Parra of Riverside was in her 2005 Dodge Durango in the eastbound center two-way
turn lane preparing to pull into a business in the 10500 block of Indiana. Witnesses state that the pickup truck driven by
Landers collided head on with the Dodge Durango. The truck driven by Mitchell was not damaged in the collision.
Joseph Landers was ejected from his truck upon impact and thrown into shrubbery on the north curb area, where his vehicle
collided with a business fence and came to rest next to him.
Marina Parra’s Durango was spun around and came to rest in the middle of the street.
Riverside Fire and Police responded to the collision and Ms. Parra was treated at the scene and transported to Riverside
County Regional Medical Center with a complaint of pain to her torso and legs.
Joseph Landers was transported to Riverside Community Hospital where he was treated by Emergency Room staff and admitted
in critical condition with major head and body trauma.
Stephen Mitchell was arrested at the scene of the collision for Illegal Street Racing and Driving under the influence
and booked into the Riverside County jail on those charges.
Members of the Riverside Police Department’s (M.A.I.T.) Major Accident Investigation Team responded and the collision
is under investigation. Anyone with further information can contact Detective Ken Madsen at (951) 787-7911.
