Riverside, Ca- On Wednesday January 11, 2006 at about 0052 hours a Riverside Police Department officer attempted to stop a vehicle that was reported stolen out of Corona, CA. The driver failed to yield to the officer and a short pursuit was initiated. During the pursuit the officer lost control of her police car and struck a parked car as well as a tree at Beatty and Arch in the City of Riverside. The suspect vehicle continued to flee and the suspect lost control of his vehicle at Beatty and Carlo. The vehicle struck a stop sign and a house before the suspect fled on foot. He was arrested two hours later when officers using a police dog located him Hiding in a nearby backyard.

The officer sustained minor injuries and was transported to Riverside Community Hospital for further evaluation. She was treated and released later the same day. Her name is not being released at this time pending notification of her family.

The suspect, John Gilbert Villanueva 25 of Riverside was transported to Riverside County Regional Medical Center for treatment to injuries he sustained during the incident. He was later booked into the Riverside County Jail for Possession of Stolen Property, Evading Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Parole Violation.
