Victim in Arlanza shooting dies

Riverside, Ca- The 24-year-old female victim of a shooting Friday night in the Arlanza neighborhood died Sunday afternoon as a result of her injuries. The investigation into the homicide continues.

Riverside Police Dispatch received several calls of shots heard in the area of the 6600 Block of Geranium Place at 8:44 p.m., on Friday, February 24, 2006. As Officers were responding, a report of shooting victims in a car at Arlington and Van Buren came in. The victims had driven from the shooting scene to the supermarket at that intersection. Inside the car, officers found two occupants who had been shot and a passenger who was not injured. Several bullet holes were found on the car.

Passenger Crystal Theobald, 24, of Riverside, was struck in the head during the shooting. She was transported to Riverside Community Hospital in very serious condition; she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 26, 2006.

The driver of the vehicle, Juan Patlan, 20, of Rubidoux, was struck in the torso during the shooting; he was treated at RCH and released.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were driving on Geranium Place, near the intersection with Greenpoint Avenue, when someone outside of the car fired a gun at them several times, hitting the car and victims.
