Stolen truck in fatal collision
Riverside, Ca- One 18-year-old Riverside male is dead following a traffic collision at 11:55 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Myers Street and Dufferin Avenue. The deceased was one of three young male occupants of a pick-up truck that was reported stolen earlier in the day.
A stolen red 1999 Dodge Ram pickup, occupied by the three young men, was southbound on Myers Street when it ran through a stop sign. An eastbound green 1991 Ford Explorer, driven by a lone Riverside woman, broadsided the truck. Both vehicles ended up off road in the orange groves. The Explorer caught fire.
A witness pulled the 51-year-old woman from the Explorer shortly before the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The female driver was taken to Riverside Community Hospital with major head trauma and is in critical condition.
The rescuing witness is identified as Kyle Jennings, 21, of Riverside. The fire was extinguished by the Riverside Fire Department.
One of the three young males was taken to Riverside Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The deceased is an 18-year-old Hispanic male, from Riverside, who was a rear-seat passenger. The two other young men were taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
Name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Names of the other vehicle occupants are not available at this time.
The truck was reported as stolen from the Arlington Branch Library, at 8:30 a.m.
