Major Injury Traffic Collision - Vehicle vs. Vehicle
Riverside, Ca- On Friday, August 18, 2006 at 7:25 pm a silver 2006 Toyota Celica driven by a 25 to 30-year-old white male, who has yet to be identified, was headed south on Van Buren Blvd. nearing the red light at Philbin Avenue in the #1 lane of traffic. At this same time a white 1988 Honda Accord was turning left onto westbound Philbin from northbound Van Buren on a green light. The Honda was driven by a 40-year-old male who resides in Hemet.
The unidentified male driving the Toyota swerved into the # 2 lane as he ran the red light and the vehicles collided in the intersection sending the Toyota south along the curb area of Van Buren where it rolled several times striking a City sign and a palm tree and then coming to rest in the # 2 lane of traffic.
Riverside Police and Fire were called to the scene and the driver of the Toyota was transported to Riverside Community Hospital where he was treated by the Emergency Room staff. He was admitted and listed in very critical condition with traumatic head injuries.
The 40-year-old male driving the Honda was not injured and was released at the scene.
The Riverside Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene and the collision is under investigation. Anyone with further information is asked to contact Detective Ken Madsen at (951) 353-7989.
