Riverside, Ca- At
approximately 7:49 PM, the Riverside Police Department responded to a major
injury collision at the above location. Upon arrival, officers found that a
single vehicle had collided with a pedestrian in the roadway. Riverside Fire and
AMR were on scene and provided medical attention to the pedestrian, however, he
was pronounced deceased at the scene. The name of the individual is being
withheld pending family notification.
The preliminary investigation revealed two pedestrians crossed the North and
Southbound lanes of Van Buren at Jurupa, against a red light and without using a
crosswalk. The vehicle, a 1991 Honda Accord, was traveling S/B on Van Buren in
the #1 lane when the pedestrians entered the southbound lanes from the center
median. The driver applied their brakes and attempted to swerve, but struck the
pedestrian in the roadway. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.
The Riverside Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is
investigating the collision.
