Riverside, Ca- On Saturday May 22, 2004 at
about 4:10 P.M. Riverside Police Officers responded to the 1300 block of
Lockerton Lane after receiving a 911 call about a man down. Upon arrival
officers located 34 year-old John Paul Burns lying in the driveway of his home.
He had sustained severe wounds to his upper body. He was pronounced deceased at
the scene. Police are withholding details of Burn’s injuries or the type of
weapon used.
Witnesses provided a description of a man who was seen leaving the residence
shortly before the police arrived. He left in Mr. Burns 2002 Porsche sports car.
Police broadcast the description of the vehicle to other law enforcement
agencies. At approximately 6:30 P.M. officers from the California Highway Patrol
notified the Riverside Police Department that they had located the vehicle. The
Porsche had been involved in a single car traffic collision on Highway 18 in the
San Bernardino National Forest. The vehicle left the roadway and travelled down
a 100-foot embankment. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and sustained
serious wounds. A Mercy Air Helicopter flew him to Loma Linda University Medical
Center where he underwent emergency surgery. He is in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle was identified at 24 year-old Enrique Rivera. He was
Burn’s roommate. He was arrested and if he survives he will be booked into the
Riverside County Jail and charged with 187 P.C. Murder.
