Riverside, Ca- On Wednesday January 30, 2004 at 6:25 AM the Riverside Police Department was telephoned by a hysterical mother who reported her 1994 Toyota had just been stolen from 4052 Honeysuckle St. with her two year old son in the vehicle. Numerous officers immediately began searching the area.
A short time later a hit and run traffic accident was reported near the intersection of American and Weyer Streets. Officers suspected the stolen vehicle could be involved in the hit and run accident. Officer Moorhouse began backtracking the probable get-away route and discovered the two year old child still in a car seat abandoned at the curb near Duluth and Strawberry Streets. The child was cold and frightened, however, was not injured.
The damaged stolen Toyota had been abandoned
by the suspect and was recovered by officers three blocks away in the roadway on
Witt Ave. Officer Miller observed a subject a few blocks away who matched the
description of the auto theft suspect given by the victim. The subject was
attempting to get into a residence at Main and Witt streets. The subject had
some of the victim’s property in his possession and was positively identified by
the victim and a witness. The suspect was arrested and booked on the listed
charges.
