Riverside, Ca- On Tuesday December 28, at
about 11:50 AM, Riverside Police officers responded to the area of Market Street
and Sixth Street to investigate reports of an injury traffic collision. Upon
arrival officers located a Riverside Transit Agency shuttle bus and two
pedestrians in the intersection.
The preliminary investigation revealed the shuttle bus was traveling northbound
on Market Street and struck the male and female pedestrians, walking eastbound
across Market Street in the crosswalk.
The pedestrians sustained serious injuries and were treated on scene by
Riverside Fire Department and AMR ambulance personnel. Both were transported to
Riverside Community Hospital and admitted for further examination.
The female pedestrian, Mary Jo Potter, 48 years old from Riverside, was
diagnosed with several broken bones and remained at Riverside Community
Hospital. The male, who’s identity is being withheld pending further
investigation, underwent emergency surgery but was ultimately pronounced
deceased due to his sustained injuries.
The driver of the shuttle bus, an employee of MV Transportation, was not injured
as a result of the traffic collision. His identity is also being withheld
pending further investigation.
Members of the Riverside Police Department Traffic Bureau responded and are
investigating the incident.
