Riverside, Ca- On Sunday August 15, 2004 at
approximately 3:20 P.M. Riverside Police Officers responded to the 11200 block
of Cypress Avenue regarding a shooting. Upon arrival they located two male
gunshot victims, both of whom are from Riverside. One of the men was pronounced
deceased at Kaiser Permanente Hospital. The Riverside County Sheriffs Coroners
Office will release his identity. The deceased victim’s brother-in-law tried to
intervene but he was also shot. He was transported to a local hospital where he
underwent emergency surgery and is expected to survive.
Investigators responded to the scene and learned that the 30 year-old male
resident became involved in a physical fight with an acquaintance that had come
to the house with at least one friend. One of the parties involved brandished a
handgun and fired several shots.
Police are not releasing further details of the investigation.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective David Smith at
951-320-8062 or Detective Steve Shumway at 909-320-8011.
