Riverside, Ca- On Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at 1:12 pm, a Colton Police
Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 2800 block of
South La Cadena Drive in the City of Colton. The suspect vehicle was occupied by
two males, which the Colton Officer believed to be wanted felons. The suspect
vehicle failed to yield for the officer and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. The
suspect vehicle traveled on city streets, southbound on the 215 Freeway and
exited on Columbia Avenue in the City of Riverside. The suspect vehicle
continued westbound on Columbia Avenue.
At approximately 1:15 pm, the suspect vehicle failed to negotiate the left turn
from Columbia Avenue on to Rivera Street, causing the vehicle to collide with a
city light pole. Both suspects immediately fled from the vehicle. Due to the
collision, the suspect vehicle caught on fire and the Riverside Fire Department
responded to distinguish the fire. The vehicle, a Red 1997 Toyota Camry was
determined to be a stolen vehicle.
The Colton Police Officer chased one of the suspects on foot. At some time
during the foot pursuit, the Colton Officer fired one shot in the direction of
the fleeing suspect. The round did not strike the suspect and the Colton Officer
temporarily lost site of him. Officers from the Colton and Riverside Police
Departments, along with Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office
assisted is establishing a perimeter for the two suspects.
At approximately 1:23 pm, one of the suspects, identified as Robert Reyes, 22
years old from Riverside was taken into custody near the intersection of
Greenwich Drive and Hale Street without incident. At approximately 1:34 pm,
Andrew Ramon Delatorre, 22 years old from Riverside was found hiding in some
bushes, located in the front yard of a residence. Delatorre was taken into
custody by a Riverside Police K-9 and was transported to a local hospital for
minor injuries.
Both Delatorre and Reyes will be booked into the Riverside County Jail for
Felony Evading (2800.2 CVC) and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle (10851 CVC).
