Riverside, Ca- On Tuesday, April 6,
2004 at 2:25 pm, Riverside Police Officers responded to the 5400 block of Del
Monte Street in the City of Riverside reference a family disturbance. The
initial information relayed to the police communications center was that the
suspect, identified as David Raymond Rose, 28 years old of Riverside, had
brandished a handgun at family members inside their single family residence and
left in a blue truck. Approximately ten minutes later, David Rose returned to
the residence and parked his blue truck in the driveway.
Less than two minutes after David Rose returned to his residence, Riverside
Police Officers arrived on scene and spoke with Rose while he sat inside his
truck. Rose exited his truck and pointed a handgun towards his head. While
officers continued to give Rose verbal commands to drop the gun, a separate team
of officers went to the rear of the house and safely evacuated two female adults
and one infant to a safe location.
While officers continued talking to Rose in the driveway of his residence, Rose
walked towards his garage door, went inside and closed the door. Rose went to a
garage window that faces the front yard, pulled open the curtain and began
talking with the officers. Rose closed the curtain and officers heard one shot
come from inside of the garage. A team of Riverside Police Officers was
preparing to enter the house when Rose opened the garage window curtain and
crawled outside to the front yard. Officers gave Rose verbal commands to drop
the handgun and he complied. Rose then advanced towards the officers and when he
refused to stop, a less-than-lethal sponge round was deployed striking the Rose
in the leg. Rose was then taken into custody and transported to a local
hospital.
Rose will be booked into the Riverside County Jail for Brandishing a Firearm.
