Riverside, Ca- On Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at approximately 8:08 P.M., officers responded to a reported traffic collision on Fourteenth Street at Olivewood. Upon arrival they found a full size Chevrolet pick-up truck had exited Highway 91 at Fourteenth Street. The vehicle had turned west onto Fourteenth and collided with two separate vehicles just east of Olivewood. The vehicle continued across Olivewood then left the roadway and struck a palm tree on the south side of fourteenth in front of the Jack-In-The-Box restaurant. As officers approached the driver in the pick-up truck they found he had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Medical personnel responded and pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
A driver from one of the vehicles that had collided with the vehicle was transported to Riverside Community Hospital complaining of pain. The other driver was not injured. The California Highway Patrol reported the vehicle was also involved in a non-injury collision on Highway 91 just before the Fourteenth Street off ramp.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Coroner was withholding the victim’s identity pending notification to next of kin.
