Riverside, Ca- On Friday, October 7th at 4:20 AM
Riverside Police officers were dispatched to the ARCO gas station at 6692
Indiana Avenue regarding a theft of a portable ATM machine. At least one suspect
was seen placing a large chain around the ATM machine located in front of the
gas station. The suspect then used a pickup truck to yank the chain and attached
ATM machine from its secured location. The suspect and vehicle were last seen
driving westbound Indiana Avenue.
Responding officers followed drag marks on the street and citizen reported
sightings of the truck dragging the ATM machine to the rear of 7130 Magnolia
Avenue. The suspect and vehicle fled the scene as officers arrived, having
already abandoned the ATM machine in the rear parking lot. Three Riverside
Police units pursued the suspect vehicle westbound on Arlington Avenue for
several miles until the suspect was able to elude capture in the Arlanza area of
Riverside.
Officers recovered the ATM machine with the cash intact and it will be returned
to the owner.
At 5:14 hours, another Riverside Police Officer had positioned himself at the
south city limits looking for the suspect vehicle. He saw it driving in the
Riverwalk area of south Riverside and pursued the vehicle and driver into Home
Gardens. The suspect abandoned the truck on Neece Street just north of Magnolia
Avenue after running off the roadway near the railroad tracks. With the
assistance of Corona Police officers the suspect was found hiding in a
neighboring residential back yard. He was taken into custody without incident.
Officers from the California Highway Patrol responded and investigated the solo
vehicle collision. The suspect was arrested for the below listed charges and
booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center.
