Riverside, Ca- At about 9:15 am, Riverside Police
officers were dispatched to investigate a suspicious package at a gasoline
station at La Sierra and Indiana Avenues. Officers could not determine the
source of the package, and requested the assistance of the Technical Services
Unit.
The gasoline station and several nearby businesses were evacuated as a
precaution. Pedestrian and vehiclular traffic were diverted for several hours,
until such time as the package was rendered safe.
During the incident, a fire broke out inside the gasoline station interior,
apparently unrelated to the package. Riverside Fire personnel were on-scene, and
handled that event once the package was rendered safe.
