Riverside, Ca- On Friday, March 18, 2005 at
2:41 a.m. officers of the Riverside Police Department responded to an apartment
in the 5200 block of El Cerrito Drive after receiving a 911 emergency call
reporting suspicious circumstances. When officers arrived they contacted the
male adult resident of the apartment who advised them that several male adult
suspects had broken into his apartment and attacked him; and during the attack
one of the suspects was stabbed. The injured suspect as well as the other
suspects fled the scene.
While Riverside Police Officers were responding to this incident, Riverside
County Sheriff Dispatch was receiving a 911 emergency call, from a male caller
on a cellular telephone in Moreno Valley, requesting medical aide for a subject
that had been stabbed at an apartment complex on El Cerrito Drive in Riverside.
California Department of Forestry medical personnel and Riverside County Sheriff
Deputies responded to the given location in Moreno Valley and contacted the
stabbing victim as well as four other male adults that matched the description
of the suspects in the home invasion robbery. The injured subject was
transported via ambulance to Riverside County Regional Medical Center where he
is currently listed in critical condition having sustained multiple stab wounds.
The other four subjects were detained and transported to Riverside Police
Department for questioning.
During the investigation, detectives of the Riverside Police Department
confirmed that the stabbing victim and the four additional subjects that were
contacted in Moreno Valley were the suspects in the robbery at the apartment in
Riverside. The resident of the apartment had let the five suspects into his
apartment to facilitate a drug transaction. During the transaction, the five
suspects attacked the resident and robbed him. As the robbery suspects were
fleeing, the resident captured one of the suspects before he left the apartment.
The resident locked the door and stabbed the robbery suspect multiple times
before releasing him to the other robbery suspects who had returned to the
apartment.
As a result of the investigation, the five robbery suspects were arrested and
charged with PC 212.5 Robbery, PC 182 Conspiracy, and PC 459 Burglary. Four of
the suspects were booked into Robert Presley Detention Center. The booking of
the fifth suspect will occur when he is release from the hospital. The resident
of the apartment was also arrested and charged with PC 664/187 Attempt Homicide,
PC 236 False Imprisonment, and HS 11359 Possession for Sale of Marijuana. The
names of all the subjects are being withheld at this time pending further
investigation.
Anyone with information related to this investigation is urged to contact
Detective Rick Wheeler at 951-320-8003 or Detective Jim Brandt at 951-320-8027.
