| Pedestrian: | 4-year-old boy from Riverside, Ca. |
| Injuries: | The boy suffered blunt force trauma to the head and lower body. He is in Critical Condition at Riverside County Regional Medical Center (RCRMC). |
Riverside, Ca- On 06/20/05, at approximately 1412
Hrs., a 20 year old female exited a RTD bus on the West side of Trautwein just
North of the Kohls shopping center, with her 4-year and 1 year old sons. The
mother, carrying the 1 year old and pushing an empty stroller, crossed the S/B
lanes of Trautwein with the 4-year old walking beside her, without using the
crosswalk. Once they reached the center median, the mother struggled to maneuver
the stroller up and onto the median. The 4-year old continued on alone and
stepped off the center median in front of a 1988 Mercedes Benz driven by Mr.
Hall, who was proceeding straight ahead in the number one lane. Mr. Hall was
unable to stop and struck the child.
The boy was transported to RCRMC where he is in critical, but stable condition.
His injuries are not expected to be life threatening.
Members of the Riverside Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team
(MAIT) are conducting the follow up investigation.
