Riverside, Ca- On Tuesday, June 14, 2005,
37-year-old Alfonso Vera was shot and killed as he attempted to intervene in an
argument between a male and two females inside of his residence at 4761 Doane
Street. A second male became involved in the argument and ultimately Vera was
shot several times. During the subsequent investigation, detectives from the
Riverside Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Unit were able to identify the
suspects.
On Friday, July 08, 2005, officers from the Inland Regional Apprehension Team (IRAT)
and the California Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested
28-year-old Fernando Contreras of Pomona, at a residence in Pomona. Contreras
was charged with the murder of Alfonso Vera and booked into the Robert Presley
Detention Center. Contreras was in violation of the terms of his parole at the
time of his arrest.
Previously, on Wednesday, June 30, 2005, officers from the Inland Regional
Apprehension Team (IRAT) and the California Department of Corrections Fugitive
Apprehension Team arrested 24-year-old Arturo Campos of Pomona for his
involvement in the murder. He was located at his jobsite in the City of
Redlands. Campos was charged with PC 32 - Aiding and Abetting a Murderer - and
booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center. Campos was also in violation of
the terms of his parole at the time of his arrest.
Detectives have also obtained an arrest warrant for 31-year-old Luis Contreras
of Pomona, for the murder of Alfonso Vera. Luis Contreras is the cousin of
Fernando Contreras and is currently outstanding.
