Riverside, Ca- On Monday, February 14, 2005,
at approximately 6:15 PM, Officers from the Riverside Police Department
responded to 3500 Polk Street (Castle Park) regarding a disturbance. Castle Park
personnel requested police assistance due to a disturbance escalating into
physical altercations. An estimated 2,500 patrons were at the amusement park.
Upon arrival, responding officers were informed that numerous patrons were
involved in physical altercations. As officers assessed the situation and
requested additional assistance, they were confronted by a group of about 200
subjects. Officers attempted to detain two subjects involved in a fight and the
group physically confronted the officers.
The officers established control within the park and with the assistance of
other officers dispersed the remaining patrons within the park. Assisting in the
incident with traffic and crowd control outside the park, were officers from the
C.H.P., Riverside County Sheriff, Corona P. D. and R.C.C. PD. Three male
juveniles were taken into custody for battery on a peace officer, resisting
arrest and disturbing the peace. Two of the juveniles received medical treatment
for minor injuries and all three were released to a family member pending
juvenile court proceedings.
Three Riverside Police Officers received minor injuries during the
confrontation. Their injuries were minor in nature and all were treated and
released to return to full duty.
The cause of the incident is the subject of an on-going investigation, and
