Riverside, Ca- On Friday, August 19, 2005, a 32-year old Riverside man, Javier Fernandez, was arrested by Riverside Police Detectives for domestic violence with injury and attempted murder. The victims are his girlfriend and their eleven-month-old son.
At approximately 9:45 AM, police officers responded to assist the Riverside Fire Department at an apartment in the 7400 block of Wells Avenue on a report of an infant having difficulty breathing. The baby was taken by ambulance to Parkview Community Hospital first, and then he was transferred to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he remains in critical condition. The preliminary investigation revealed a pattern of abuse and domestic violence had taken place in the home and finally resulted in the injuries reported today. The mother sustained several minor injuries. The infant required treatment for severe head trauma and multiple other less serious bruises and soft tissue injuries. Child Protective Services took a four-year-old child who also lives in the apartment into protective custody.
Police gathered evidence at the apartment and conducted
interviews throughout the day and determined the injuries to the infant and
mother were the result of abuse by Mr. Fernandez. He was arrested at the
Riverside Police Department, Centralized Investigations Bureau following his
interview.
Anyone with information relevant to this investigation is urged to call
Detective Linda Arnold at 951-320-8068 or Detective Rick Wheeler at
