Truancy Enforcement Project

Riverside, Ca-  On Wednesday September 24, 2003, The Riverside Police Department School Resource Officer Unit, in cooperation with the Alvord Unified School District conducted a truancy enforcement project. The project resulted in the contact and citation of 11 truant students for violation of Riverside Municipal Code 9.10.010 (Daytime Loitering by Minors). The truant students were identified, issued a citation to appear in court, and returned to their school of origin. The project also resulted in a total of 27 contacts, one felony arrest, and one misdemeanor arrest.

“It is unlawful for any minor under the age of eighteen years who is subject to compulsory education or to compulsory continuation education to loiter, idle, wander, or be in or upon the public streets, highways, roads, alley, parks, playgrounds, or other public grounds, public places, vacant buildings, or any unsupervised place during the operating school hours of the juvenile offender’s school on days when the juvenile offender’s school is in session.”
