Riverside, Ca-
On Saturday, October 11, 2003, Riverside Police
Officers Scott Borngrebe and William Rodriguez received awards as “Top Cops” at
the 10th Annual Top Cops Awards held in Washington D.C. at the Lincoln Theatre.
The Top Cops Awards pay tribute to law enforcement officers from across the
country for outstanding service to their communities during the preceding year.
Officers Borngrebe and Rodriguez were nominated by fellow officers and selected
from hundreds of nominations by an independent Awards Committee.
The awards resulted from an incident occurring on December 31, 2002 wherein the
officers responded to the 2700 block of Aries Street regarding a female being
assaulted by her adult male son. The victim told officers that two small
children were inside the house with the suspect. During the officers’ attempt to
remove the children from the residence, the suspect armed himself with a knife
and grabbed one of the children. The suspect advanced towards the officers and
was shot. Both children were unharmed and immediately taken from the house.
Medical aid was requested, however, the suspect was deceased at the scene.
Officer Scott Borngrebe has been with the Riverside Police Department since July
of 1995. He has worked with the University Neighborhood Enhancement Team and is
currently assigned to Field Operations.
Officer William Rodriguez began his law enforcement career with the Riverside
Police Department in 2002 after serving twelve years with the New York City
Police Department. Officer Rodriguez is currently assigned to Field Operations.
